Words and Paintery

At Words and Paintery ,this is the combination

It puts a new twist on Christmas.

I started by using shimmery blue background paper then painted with pink through a chevron mask.
Next I used Lil Davis metallic shades paint in ROSE on the final arrowhead plus the background mat for my photo.
I've used Liquid pearls in OCEAN BLUE to define the mat using wiggly lines.
All of the above gave my layout shimmer.

I've added some fussy cut roses, a heart, a buckle, paper strips and my journaling area.

The photo is of a special Christmas gift that my daughter bought me in Bloomingdales in New York. It is a hand painted tree ornament and carries on a family tradition.

Use your stuff

When I'm travelling I always save those free sewing kits that they leave in the motels.
They have come in handy more than once for a loose button or whatever.

My friend is about to go away with her mother for 2 weeks so I've made her a card and used 2 of the sewing cards as my focus.
I used faux stitching around the edges plus mini lettering as my sentiment.

This will be entered on Use your stuff

Seize the Birthday

I have a 50th to attend in the new Year so I made this card using SILVER AND GOLD. It is the criteria for Seize the Birthday.

The silver ribbon and stars are from a Christmas kit I bought cheaply recently.
The gold strip plus scraps of patterned paper are from a 6x6 pad.
Luckily one of the numbers was 50!

Let's get sketchy

This sketch appeared on Let's get Sketchy for Team A week 3.
I'm still scrapping my holiday photos from Canada and Alaska, thus I did a layout about Alaska and used many of the scrapbooking items I bought there. I even used the chipboard flag.

One thing I learnt doing this layout was that washi tape is hard to cut V into. Some tore, some stretched, but the overall banner effect is ok.

Scrapping Outback

This is the colour inspiration at Scrapping Outback. We are to use all the colours plus white.

The photo is of the acropolis in Athens Greece.
On my first trip there we saw snow. It was January 1977.I've copied this from an old slide.

I started with an October Afternoon paper named Farmhouse Faded Wallpaper.
Next I misted using red through a sunray mask.
I began overlapping paper strips featuring the colours in the cocktail behind my photo mat.
I even used part of a circle paper (containing white) underneath.
My chipboard was inked first in yellow then black distress ink has been applied to "age" it.
The 4 vases plus "Ancient" are from Memory Maze chipboard.
The red brads added an extra finished look to my layout, same as the cherry does on the drink.

The Mixed media card challenge

Here http://themixedmediacardchallenge.blogspot.com.au/search/label/challenge is the link to it.
The criteria is

To start with, I have misted through an old plastic lace doiley with Crafty Notions creative colour spray in Red Lustre so it has a shine about it.

Next I have lightly stamped 3 houses in a row along the top of the card to resemble a street.

I've used a WOW chipboard which says "Home is where the heart is", which has been misted in green.
Finally, I've glued red stars and rhinestones on to my card to make it sparkle.

I'm also entering it in http://thatscraftychallenges.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/anything-goes-challenge.html where the challenge is Anything goes.

Stuck?! in Skagway and Scrap around the world.

Skagway, Alaska is a cold place even in summer.
Over 100 years ago gold was discovered on the Yukon and having done the rail trip I can understand the hardships they faced there.
Here is a view of Skagway

I have used the Stuck?! sketch

and based my colours on this mood board from Scrap around the world

The baby it's cold outside reminded me of these photos.
I'm inspred by the icicles and have used brown as another colour option based on the granny rug.
The train die cut colour can be related to the cupcakes base.

My background paper is Pebbles Aqua Florali.
The brown circles I bought in Alaska, same with the diecut.
I've used Buzz and Bloom chipboard hearts inked blue and lots of rhinestones to represent ice.
My red rhinestones are understated. I also inked with white over the word Skagway to give it an icy look.

Cardabilities #113

I'm needing some more numbered birthday cards, so decided to use this sketch to create a teenage card.
I was really inspired by the one made by Megan Gourlay on the Cardabilities DT.

So here is my multi layered bright card.

I've inked the chipboard heart and dipped the large daisy in coloured inks.

Scrap the boys

It has been quite a while since I've scrapped for Scrap the Boys.
This month it is a sketch challenge and Wendy Smith always produces great sketches.

I've used a black and white photo so chose to keep the whole thing as neutral as possible.
The 4 boys in this photo went to High School with me.
Harry Williams,on the left, went on to become the first Aboriginal Socceroo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Williams_(Australian_soccer_player)

I started with a background paper that resembles grey stucco.
This prompted me to use gesso through a Prima Finnabair mask.
I've added filmstrip washi tape, several tags including 3 with a velour finish.
My journey tag is from Teresa Collins "Far and Away" collection.
The square brads add a final bit of zing.

Mojo Monday 375

Here's the sketch

And because I have a couple of friends who don't celebrate Christmas, I've made a new year card.

I actually hand wrote my sentiment!

Seize the Birthday

I'm still using up those strips and trying to be innovative.
I came up with the idea of putting them randomly across a card, then using a round sticker I had in the middle.I added 3 pearls as a final touch.
My colour theme is black with yellow, which will suit male or female.
Most of my friends are turning 60 this year or next, so this won't go astray.

Pedalling bikes at Sketchabilities

This is the current sketch at Sketchabilities

Last night I was trying to think of ways to use up those strips that you cut off the bottom of patterned papers.
I made a couple of grids using co-ordinating colours. One featured blues and the other oranges and greens.
Here's the blue one so you can see what I was doing.
The green/orange one fitted perfectly with the Sketchabilities sketch.

First I dribbled red glimmer mist on the page.
It is nearly used up so no longer mists.
Next, I used gesso through a chicken wire mask around the grid, especially at the top.
I've added my photo and washi tape to provide the chevron and filmstrip.
I inked a chipboard maple leaf yellow and edged it with "Old paper" distress ink.
(This was in Vancouver at Stanley Park, hence the maple leaf).
I also added a circular paper clip which reminded me of the bicycle wheels.

Regular followers will know about the squirrels but sketchabilities may not.
On every Canada layout I added a Jolees squirrel. This one has 2 plus some acorns.
Stanley park is full of oak trees and many squirrels too!

Here's a close up of some detail

And here's the layout photographed rather than scanned.

Sketch 'n'scrap

This is the latest sketch from Sketch 'n'scrap.

I decided to use blues for this layout, featuring me on the Rocky Mountaineer train in Canada.
I discovered I had a luggage tag which worked well as my journaling and was pleased to use up some buttons on my layout.
There is also 2 lots of washi tape plus several papers.
And because it is a Canada layout, there is the ever present squirrel.

The alphas saying "on a train " stand out better in real life!

Scrap our stash

Here is the inspiration picture and we are asked to use something sparkly on our layout.

In my case I've used a copper circle on the layout, plus satin ribbon. Also white paint with Liquid pearls in copper colour on the chevrons top and bottom. There is also aqua sparkly washi tape.

The 2 papers from EK success were ideal colours for this challenge.

My photo is the float plane in Victoria , Canada.
After flying from Whistler, we went inside the restaurant named "The flying otter" .
It is right on the dock next to the planes. I kept their business card.

Friend card tutorial for Counterfeit kits.

What was that song "Cause you got to have friends" ?
It is so true!
They are often the ones you turn to in times of excitement, turmoil, grief, etc.
And now that I have attained the ripe old age of 60, let me tell you your friends become more important. We must NOT forget to thank them, over and over.

Enough waffle. My friends kit was made up especially for this task.

I've chosen bright colours in reds, blues and pinks.
There's washi tape and ribbon and I have pre made some banners at a retreat I went to recently where they had a machine that cut them.
It was an "epic 6" but you would be better off with a big shot .
(Lusting after that!)

I also used alphas to pre make 2 friends titles/sentiments.
It has all been stored in a ziplock bag (handy things)

Now here is my first creation.
I started with the word and added the ready cut pennant
Next I added ribbon under the letters

I turned over the back and folded away the excess blue card.
I then cut along the fold using a craft knife.

Then adhere it to the background.
You've got to admit it is colourful!

Stuck on U sketches

Here is the sketch at Stuck on U

It features lots of layers which suited me as I have lots of part of pages.
I worked around the main colours in the photos, green, blues, black & white, and browns.
I was able to find a chipboard piece from Chapter One collection by Kaisercraft , which looks good above my title.
I've added the ubiquitous squirrel and acorn as it is another Canada layout.

Addicted to cas ...........Dots

The challenge over at Addicted to CAS is DOTS

Now that Christmas card making is over for me, I've started on using up my stash.

I had this Kaisercraft polka dot paper and ribbon featuring dots with stars in the centre.
The matched so I created this card.

Saturday 6 December 2014

Stuck?! Wanting to drive.

Here's the first Stuck? sketch for December.

I've flipped it so the cluster is on the LHS.
These photos were big and landscape, but I wanted to scrap them for my sister as it is her grandson.
There are 3 not 4, I hope I am forgiven

I used the red and lime green from the photos with a touch of brown and navy to make it masculine.

My alphas are the end of a set so there is a combo of small and capitals, but I think it works.

I've also used 2 skeleton leaves, white star brads, brackets, heart washi tape, a sticker that resembles a ruler, and 2 denim flowers.

Feeling sketchy for December and Shopping our stash

At Feeling Sketchy There is free choice for both cards and layout.
I'm still madly making cards for my stall tomorrow night so here's another one.
It is very traditional and olde worlde.

Next is my card for shopping our stash.

I made this using the cover page for a pad of Tim Holtz Kraft papers.I misted it red.
Next the heart patterned paper came free in a magazine.
The hessian is from a family connection who used to repair bags.
My 3 enamel dots are beads that I melted in the oven.
Perfection (sentiment) came from a kit I won.

And there you have it! A free card.

Merry Monday #137

I went back to messy card making with this one.It is for Merry Monday

I misted with forest green over a Tim Holtz textured Kraft.
Next I added white paint through a lacy mask along the edge.(To resemble snow) and through a chevron mask to give the impression of flight.
The bird is fussy cut from another Tim Holtz textured Kraft and misted red.
I've added it with foam dots to lift it off the page.

The sentiment is a rub on.

2 more cards

Christmas is coming and the pressure is on.
Cards are in full scale production at the moment as I'm doing a stall on Friday night selling cards.
I like challenges as they motivate me to try new ideas.

My first card is for Use your stuff where we are asked to use chevrons.
I remembered I had some black & white chevron but is was too narrow ,so I also used green chevron washi tape.
Next I've layered a gingerbread man to be 3d using foam dots and a be jolly sentiment.

My other card is for http://cleanandsimpleonsunday.blogspot.com.au/ where they want a children's card.
This one could barely have been more simple. I had Silent night patterned paper which just fitted my card.I have added an angel looking up with a foam dot again.
A very traditional card with Santa and a baby.
