4 crafty chicks #209 Something old,something new

The challenge at 4 Crafty Chicks is to create using something old and something new.
I've chosen to do a layout using my Canadian holiday photos.
This time I am walking on the Athabasca glacier on the Icefields Parkway.
It was actually quite sunny despite being surrounded by snow and ice.

This layout is a combination of old and new items
OLD- yellow paper, navy paper, words=location, best day ever, wonder

NEW- Wood veneers from Jennifer Grace, Mountain paper (bought in Canada), journaling square, title letters ,sticker saying sightseeing.

Don't tell the Counterfeit Kit people because this is using my September kit a couple of days early.

Mood board at Sassy Scrappers

This is the mood board at Sassy Scrappers.

I have chosen a photo of my auntie, taken just before she died.
This is one set of cousins visiting her and her 3 daughters.
The word LOVE at the top left corner is the underlying theme.

The little white flowers plus the aqua of the macroons led me to the background paper , Ruby Rock-it Becalm.
I've chosen other blue toned papers for my matting.
Next, I used white mesh and 2 pink skeleton leaves. I have added a white feather with purple script running across it.
I have glued sequins across the right hand side. Pink heart brads are at the 2 top corners.
I have had letters that spell family  in my stash for several years. I was pleased to use them.Although they are glued in place, I have also stitched them. I finally stitched some other flourishes.
My journaling will go on this later.

Doing a 360 at Mojo Monday

The sketch is up at Mojo Monday #360

This week it is a tall skinny card.
I've used some free papers that came in a card magazine featuring cupcakes.
There was co-ordinating spots and stripes as well.
I've used mini alphas for my sentiment and twine with a punched border.

Grizzly bears at Sketch'n'scrap

This was the Kodak moment of our trip around Canada.
Just after we left Jasper we saw a mother grizzly bear with 2 cubs walking along a hillside near the highway.Apparently this is a rare sight.
We had seen other bears but not like this! She was enormous and the cubs were so tiny.
Dennis our coach driver said they were about 4 months old.

The sketch n scrap sketch was perfect for these 2 photos. I kept my layout neutral because the bears are the focus.
However, I couldn't resist the Heidi swap border to add a touch of "wild" to this layout.

Sketch n scrap card

The sketch n scrap card challenge is this one

I'm currently working on baby cards as September seems to be a busy time for them.
Here's my latest card which is based on the sketch.

Blog hop & Challenge #1 at Counterfeit kits

A single layer challenge is what they asked for.......Hmm, tricky for me.

I had in my kit this coredinations core essentials grey cardstock.

Looking in my tools drawer, I saw my sanding block.
I haven't used that in ages.
So to start off, I sanded over the embossed dots to create a white/grey background.
Next I flicked turquoise mist on to the page randomly.
Still needing more texture, I used bubble wrap to apply white and then pale turquoise blobs on my page.

It needed "dirtying up" a bit so I used black distress ink to add some grey to it.
Then I painted through a cardboard alpha stencil to get my title.

And here is where we were....Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay Alaska

You can see the effect I was creating in this picture.

Here is where the Hubbard Glacier is

and there were 8 cruise liners sitting in front of it waiting for it to calve!

I'm entering this in scrapping 4 fun Technique challenge as well.

If you have stumbled on my blog out of order, you can start at the beginning.
Now here is the order of the blog hop.

Suzy Bees Bloomin' challenge blog

Here is a new blog I discovered by blog hopping today.Suzy Bees Bloomin challenge

The challenge this time is anything goes.

The other half of the pink cardstock I used for Cards in Envy was not wasted.
I used the same background paper and an old diecut of a curved slide mount.
I punched 2 flowers then sewed a organza flower and pearl bead through them.
I made a thank you card because it is good manners to say thank you.

Cards in Envy

Another card site that I often visit is Cards in Envy.
Their challenge this fortnight is Best friends.
We are asked to make a card for  friends.
I put the black tag through my cuttlebug to give it depth and some interest.
I tried to keep the "dusty" look about the whole card.

Rochelle spears triple challenge

At http://rochellespears.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/august-scrappy-friends-challenge-july.html

She has a triple challenge going on.
First the sketch

Next the colours

and the tic tac toe to choose from.
I went across the middle line.ie dry embossing, circle and chevron.

My layout started with me painting white chevrons on green, through a mask.
Next I went searching for the other colours and discovered the zigzag paper by Pebbles.
There is pink on it and the navy is more indigo, but close enough.
I put the navy top card through the cuttlebug spotted embosser and traced the circle with black pen.
My embellishments are in the Canadian theme and the only colour alphas I had were the aqua.

Two cards and two challenges

My first card is for Festive Friday

The challenge is black, white and Kraft.
My embellishments in those 3 colours are rather low, so I have used music paper, a black doiley, a strip of kraft patterned paper, then washi tape and ribbon. My extra treat to make it more "blingy" is sequins by the metre in black and white.

My second card is for In the pink challenge where anything goes.

It is all pink except for the tiny yellow heart.

I just realised I missed the entry on In the pink, but will enter it into Papertake weekly where the challenge is diecuts. The dragonflies qualify me here.

Merry Monday

Merry Monday posed this combination

I have made a card, starting with silver vellum.
I then used a square of glittery gold card, then a black doiley.
Across the bottom is a silver sparkly border strip and my sentiment.
(sorry) I used red as I have no Christmas sentiment stamps and this is a rub on.

Let's get shabby and Use your stuff

Asking a librarian what her favourite children's book is has no particular answer. There are many.

One that I adored as a child (and still do!) is Milly Molly Mandy.
I loved the map of the village.
and here is the cover of the edition I have.

Using chipboard, hessian, lots of punched flowers, fussy cut pictures and a photo of my daughter and a friend, I created this.
My understated title is home, sweet home.
I could have used big red alphas, but didn't want it to override the photo.
 I like this better.
Here are the links to Let's get shabby http://letsgetshabby.blogspot.com.au/
and Use your stuff http://useyourstuff.blogspot.com.au/

I trust it is acceptable to both to enter it in 2 contests.

Feeling Sketchy Card sketch #99

This is my card for the current Feeling sketchy challenge.
It is a fathers day card for a grandfather.
Those spots at the back remind me of bubble wrap so pop is appropriate.
The cute chipboard owls are from MEMORY MAZE.

Here's the sketch if you want to join in.

Sketches in Thyme borrowed idea and Artfull crafts.

Do you keep all those strips that you cut off the bottom of patterned papers?...............I do.
Sometimes you can use them as a trim.
When I saw this expired sketch, I decided to create a just for fun layout.

Look at all those strips of paper down the centre.
And at Artfull crafts if you use this palette as well you can compete in their challenge.

So , digging into my Canada photos I found 2 of the Beluga whale show at Vancouver aquarium.

I've covered slide mounts with washi tape and adhered them at an angle. On to that I have placed the chipboard squares out of the centre also covered in washi tape.
There are also pink enamel dots and 2 stars I had.
Here are some closies

And look what is left of my Counterfeit Kit this month, not much!

Stuck on U sketches

Over at Stuck on U sketches

This sketch perplexed me at first.
That dotted line at an angle, what would I use?

I dug into my Counterfeit Kit and discovered I had only one patterned paper left. Japanese umbrellas.
Then I had a brainwave and recalled my photos of the Japanese gardens at Butchart Gardens in Canada.
Red came into the mix with half a large doiley and that oh so enormous flower.
I found aqua card to match my top in the photo and vellum to soften the whole thing.
This means Challenge #3 at Counterfeit Kits is also done.
Instead of chevrons I have stitched in the same 3 areas.
Keen observers will notice my punched maple leaf and squirrel sticker from Canada too.

Mojo Monday and Shopping our stash on Sunday

Here is my card

Here is Mojo Mondays sketch for #358

I've been using up purple cardstock and papers this week, so that is how this one started.

I found a square of white with pink dotted paper and stamped a mason jar.

The other trimmings are pastel shades that I think co-ordinate well.

Blogger is refusing to co-operate so obviously the one on the left is my card.
                                                    **********************
Next is my card for Shopping our stash

We are  asked to go "BACK IN THE DAY using old tools or old pictures.
My regular readers might remember that I cut up an old picture dictionary from my childhood, last year.I have used some of those images already .
This picture of a truck suits my purpose, as I need a male card.
I have mounted it on mulberry paper that has been in my stash for 10 years or more.

Case this sketch and Crafty Creations card

Here is this weeks Case this sketch.
I found some floral printed cardboard so cut it to size.
I decided to keep my embellishments simple and hopefully, elegant.
Here is my interpretation

I'm also entering it in Crafty Challenges where the theme is flowers.

*****************
Meanwhile here are some other cards I've made recently using papers from my scrap bag.

Couldn't decide what sentiments to use so I'm open to suggestions.

Scrap365

This sketch for scrap 365, plus these chippies from my Counterfeit Kit
Resulted in this layout

I used Bella Boulevarde Sand and Surf "Flying High" paper, plus misting over a clock mask and pinecone inking through a Prima dots mask.
Then I applied layers until I was happy.
Even doodling had a look in, very unusual for me!

I have used American Crafts thickers and Studio Calico wood veneers.
